Then we he asked if she's "warm enough", its meant to be an interpretation of how Bella doesn't need Jacob anymore!. Think about how they grew so close in "New Moon" and how Jacob helped Bella "survive" without Edward!. Then when Edward vows never to leave again Jacob is furious for many reasons (vampire vs!. werewolf, Jacob falling in love with Bella, Jacob angry with Edward for hurting her, etc!.) This scene is the climax in the love triangle and it forces Bella to finally separate from Jacob but she doesn't have the strength to do it until "Chapter 26: Ethics"!. Even still Bella will be thinking about him ("Breaking Dawn" Chapter 1 emphacizes the 'bond' she still has to Jacob)!.
