Question: Writing plot!?
Hi!. My little sister has set it set in her heart to get a book published!. She spends a lot of time doing it, but her book always ends up being about 12 pages long!. I think her problem is that she gets and idea for a beginning or an end, and just thinks up the rest as she goes along!. Do you know of any free online generatior that helps organize the plot of a story!? It would help if it didn't need to be downloaded, but acceptions can be made!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Okay!.

Personally, I think this helps:
This is a story about (character)!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.
who wants to (goal)!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.
because(motivation)!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.
but (conflict)!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

I call it my 'one sentence'!. Fill it in!. It will help your sister stick to the plot of the story, and will keep her on track!.

Take Harry Potter (in general) for example!. His 'one sentence' would be:

This is a story about a boy named Harry Potter
who wants to defeat an evil wizard called Voldemort
because Voldemort is causing devastation everywhere in the wizarding world and Harry Potter is the only one who can defeat him
BUT Voldemort is nearly way too powerful to beat!.

See!? Alternatively, there is another way of keeping your sister on track!.

There should be ten MASTER scenes in each story - the things that really put the whole story together!.

The first scene is the Opening, where all the heroes and (optional) villains are introduced!. The main complication is also introduced!. This should 'grab' the reader!.

The next two scenes are about how the hero is going to take action to solve the problem!. The complication is unfolded even more, and there may be little complications introduced in between!.

Scenes 4, 5, 6, 7 are more Complications that link to the main complication that the hero has to solve!. In scene 8 the WORST COMPLICATION POSSIBLE occurs!. Keep making the complications worse as the story progresses, as this leaves the reader wanting to know how the hero will overcome it!.

Scene 9 is the point where action, suspence, conflict all meet together to make a tremendous CRASH BANG! This is the worse-than-the-worst-complication-possib!.!.!. Make this so exciting, so thrilling that the reader won't want to put the book down!. How!?

My tips to writing an exciting action scene:

1!. Write short sentences!. Do not write so many words in a sentence - it confuses the reader!. Comprehension is the key here!. Readers get what you're trying to say more when the sentence is short and sweet!. Don't always write short sentences though, it'll make you sound like a first grader!.

2!. Avoid passive voice!.

SUBJECT | VERB | OBJECT

Remember this formula for a simple sentence in active voice!?

She | slapped | me!.

Let's put it in passive voice, where the formula is:

OBJECT | VERB | SUBJECT

I was slapped by her!.

Compare the two!. Which one has more effect on you!?

Anyway, back to the scene planning!. After that thrilling Scene 9, there is a final scene!. It is scene 10!. In this scene all the complications are resolved!.

Good luck writing! I hope this helped :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think there is one, but even if there was, it would probably generate really lame stories!.
Maybe your sister should look into writing short stories!? She can always try to get a novel of short stories published someday, I guess!.!.!. But if she has trouble with length, then maybe her writing is trying to tell her something!.
Short of that, there are books and websites dedicated to helping you develop plot!. You can look into some of those for her!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know of an online generator that could help!.
What I do is complete a cast of characters and their discription, then I make the plot, intro, fill climax, fill, end!. *wala*
Detailed plots woluld be her best bet since she gets carried away!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've never heard of a story structure generator, but you can look into the books Plot and Structure (part of the Write Great Fiction series) or the Story Structure Architect (this one goes VERY in depth)Www@QuestionHome@Com
