How to start writing a story?

Question: How to start writing a story!?

ok during my summer holidays i want to rekindle my old hobbie of writing and drawing stuff!. Any suggestions to get motivated!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry, but I don't believe in all that magical stuff about taking walks, listening to music and daydreaming!. I begin the hardcore way!. By doing my homework!. Character studies!. Plot analysis and research!. It took Ken Follet ONE YEAR to do the research for Pillars of the Earth!. It took Jody Shields 9 months to research The Fig Eaters!. The surest way to start a story that you never finish is by just sitting down and jumping into it!. That never happens to the well prepared author!. Pax-CWww@QuestionHome@Com

Listen to music!. Watch tv!. You might get an interesting idea of a plot in your head!. Just look around randomly at random things until some sort of idea pops into your head!. When it does, start thinking of interesting ideas for characters- I usually base my characters' appearance on people that I've seen in real life!. But make them more creative, add interesting qualities to them so that they are all different and unique!. Make sure you know the relationship between the characters!.!.like friends/enemies, if your story includes romance its interesting if there's a love triangle of some sort!. Then as you continue to listen to music or whatever, generate a nice peaceful, or violent whatever you like lol, idea for the beginning (make sure it's interesting ;), i usually start stories with a little descriptive-ness to give an idea of the dominant impression!. )and then make sure you know the "problem" that occurs after!. I usually just wing it, but some people like to know the ending of the story they're writing ahead of time!. Do what works best for you!. Then combine the character and the plot and from the beginning start scribbling/typing away :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

you don't need to make it absolutely totally amazing!. you want to write because you love to write!.

and it doesn't have to be a completely original idea if you just want to write!. you can write a fractured fairytale (taking a normal fairytale and messing it up however you want) or take a book you really really hate!. then, fix it and make it better for you (this can even work if you've found some of your old stories, etc!.)!.

in terms of drawing, say your favorite book EVER is gone with the wind!. there's so much you can draw there- portraits of your favorite characters, landscapes of tara, etc!. stuff that you're interested in and love!.

and eventually, something awesome and interesting will come to you, but until then, keep your skills sharp!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The best thing to do is to just relax!. Dont worry about getting writers block!. And dont write for anyone but yourself, if you arent feeling the story, its not worth writing!. When your writing, you dont need to worry about getting your books published or edited or whatever, when you are writing let yourself really get into the story!. Turn on some music and day dream!. I do this, let the thoughts flow, and then usually something will come to my mind and I'll be like, "oooh that would make a good story!."
And reading always helps!. Read lots of books in the genre you want to write to see what ideas are out there and to get a sense of other author's styles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I also agree with Persiphone_Hellecat and your favourite pessimist!. You really need to research these things, although inspiration is good to!. What you need to focus on most I would say is characters!. I have seen so many books like Twilight and Harry Potter that have wonderful premises but two-dimensional characters!. Maybe think about your characters chatting to one another sometimes, or give them odd situations and figure out how they would react!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ok, i am in the same situation, i ll tell you what i have been doing!. i put down the skeleton of the story that i want to write, i know how many char!.s i ll have, and what the end is going to be, what impression i d like to create!. and i just leave it for a few days, so later ill have a better perspective!. that has always helped me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with Persiphone_Hellecat!. Even as we speak I'm studying some Russian for my novel!. If you don't really know what to write start with characters!. What do you want them to act like!? Names!? Hometowns!? All kinds of things to make your characters real!. Once you have that you need to have a story line!. Then a setting and so-on!. Good luck! =]Www@QuestionHome@Com

Definitely join a writing community! I've been using chapteread!.com and it's motivated me!. They have a great writing area and writing tools!. What I like is that I can post pieces of my writing and then get quick reviews/critiques, I then go back and revise!. It's really great!. when i'm having trouble starting a piece i get the first page from another book and start coping that till i get my own idea and then start over on a new page!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I'd start working on my spelling and grammar, firstly!. And from there, just write what you know!.

Oh, and I'd also suggest staying up until four a!.m!. fueled by a sugar high brought on by four consecutive cans of pop!. Sleepovers do have a use!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I usually figure out who my audience for reading this book will be!. YOUTH!? OLDER GENERATION!? WHO!?

Decide whether you will write in first person or third person!.!.!.!.!.

Find a topic that will make your target audience want to read your story!.
