If you enjoyed the movies of Harry Potter I’m sure you will love the books!. JK Rowling is a great author!. Even if you've seen the movies make sure to start at the beginning of the series, though!. Events form the early books are left out that come back in to play in the latter books!. I would highly recommend reading the books!
I wondered the same question about the different versions of Harry Potter!. So when i traveled abroad I purchased a copy of the British book of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (number six)!.
I noticed many small differences!. For one the spelling is different for the same words!. Like color and colour!. Same word different spellings!. Terms are not changed thought!. I have read English version and British and both say the same thing!.
As for the covers, there are different illustrators!.
You can see the cover of the English version of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince at this link!. http://i6!.photobucket!.com/albums/y250/Ph!.!.!.
You can see the cover of the British version of Harry Potter at this link!. http://bookend!.files!.wordpress!.com/2008/!.!.!.
Other books I have read recently that I enjoyed include Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse by: Stephanie Meyer!. They are great Romance Teen/ Young Adult books! They are my second favorite books (Behind Harry Potter)!. If you like Romance then I would suggest any books by Nicholas Sparks!. They are beautifully written novels!

I really hope I helped you prevent one more headache and unanswerd question in the world!Www@QuestionHome@Com

So, it is just a few Briticisms that have been Americanized, and the covers!. Look at the links at the bottom for the full story of the differences between UK and US versions!.

2) Is it too late

No!. Actually, you are probably fortunate to have seen the movies first!. After reading the books, you realize just how badly the movies have altered what's in the books!. Watching the movies first gives you the opportunity to judge the movies on their own merits, without expecting stories as good as the books, and without expecting the characters and events in the movies to be exactly *like* those in the books!.

So, read!

No its not too later to start reading them!. The difference in the British and American versions are the title on the first book, and words are different, like he Quittich grounds are called the Quittich Pitch in the British Version, but in the American version, its called a Quittich Field!.
Other books are My Sister's Keeper, The Series of Unfortunate Events (All of them), Eragon, Eldest, and The Gift, The Riddle, The Crow (all three are a series)Www@QuestionHome@Com
