What's with vampire and romance novels?

Question: What's with vampire and romance novels!?

Why is there so much of a fondness with these type of books!?

Screw Twilight, vampires are just hot in general!. When you get something (no matter how completely impossible they may be), and they're as seductive, sexual, appealing as a vampire, then they work well with romance movies/novels!. It's a great scapegoat to get more readers/viewers!.

In young adult, maybe!. I am not familiar with the young adult category!.

In adult romance, certainly not!. Vampire paranormal romance (for adults) has been around for longer!. I was reading vampire paranormal romance back in 2003 and some of the stuff I read back then was already at least one year old!.

Some examples:

Sherrilyn Kenyon (first in Dark Hunters series-2002)
Lynn Viehl (first of her Darkyn series-2005)
Rosemary Laurey (2004)
Emma Holly - (first of her Midnight series-2003)
MaryJanice Davidson- (first of her Undead series was originally published electronically by Ellora's Cave all the way back in 2002, before it was contracted by a big print house)
Charlaine Harris - (her first in the Sookie Stackhouse series- 2002)
Laurel K!. Hamilton - the first Anita Blake dates back to the 1990's

There was quite a bit of adult vampire paranormal romance out there by the time Twilight came into the picture!.

And vampire fiction has been around for centuries!. Bram Stoker (who started it all) and Anne Rice more recently were the authors that I feel contributed the most to put it in the pop culture radar, even when there are other authors that wrote it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The vampire romance I think comes from a older source than Twilight!. Twilight has caused a lot of hype but the real interest I think has come from Dracula!. Brom Stroker has a great mind and he has lots of originality that a cheesy Twilight cannot compete with!. also the theme of having sex or loving a semi-human but otherwise otherwordly creature has long held much appeal!. Same thing with humans falling in love with mermaids, fairies, etc!. Lethal attraction --- mmmm !.!.!. delicious !.!.!. in more ways than one !.!.!.!. see!? very seductive

Vampire romance has been around far longer than Twilight!.
I don't know why exactly!.!.!. but vampires have become something of a sex symbol!. They are dark, mysterious, and I guess blood has a pretty decent relation to sex as well!. And of course, many women (for some reason) love romance novels!. The two go together fairly well, considering!. Twilight is a product of this; whatever caused it is now very old!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would like to think that it came from some better books than Twilight!. I don't consider "You are exactly my brand of heroin" to be sexy at all!. I think it goes back to Viovode Dracula and Lucy Westerna!. Bram Stoker could do something Stephanie Meyer cannot - he could WRITE!. I think that it all came from Twilight!.!.!. it was like a needed story in the industry; one that caught attention and told of something mythical, hence the Vampire!.
Like HP, without it the industry of writing/publishing wouldnt be the same :)

i have to disagree with piano player but Twilight is pretty much the coz of sudden fondness to these types of books!.!.!. n maybe the actor who is playing the good looking vampire has something to do with it!.!.!.!. the handsome vampire is played by Robert Pattinson!.!.!. try watching the trailer!.!.!. u'll see why!.!.!.
