Question: Is Uncle Tom's Cabin a hard-to-read book!?
I want to start reading some classics and Uncle Tom's Cabin sounds really good and I saw alot of reviews saying good life lessons; so it sounds like the perfect book to read! But some people were saying it was hard to read!. how hard do you think Uncle Tom's Cabin is to read!? Is it as hard as Wuthering Heights (which was too confusing for me)!? or Is it just a little confusing in some parts!? If it is really hard what are some suggestions of good classics to read that arnt too hard!?

I read it in College!. Personally I didn't think it was that great!. It's well written and flow but Stowe made it longer than necessary!. You have to understand that she was trying to make a point that slavery was wrong but at the same time she was repeatedly hitting you over the head with the same mallet!. It gets to the point were you just want to shake her and yell "I get It"!. also it is only in the past few decades that the book has been considered a classic!. At the time most people actually put the book down for the things I have stated!. I recommend reading it, but you have to understand it's a political statement book!. At the same time the book is chalk full of racial stereotypes (some of which the book popularized) and showed that all thought she was against slavery she didn't care much for African Americans otherwise!. If you choose to read it, get Nortons critical edition!.
If your interested in stories about slavery read "Incidents in the life of a salve girl", or "Of Human Bondage"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
it uses a lot of old fashion launage which is very difficult if you don't understand what they are trying to say!. also there are many things happening in the story at once which are really important so you have to really pay attention as you read or you will miss something really important to the story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
I was about 14 when I read it and didn't have any trouble following the story and understanding it!.
If you've read and understood other literature written around the same time you shouldn't have trouble understanding it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
It is not confusing at all, but it does take concentration ot follow the story!. The book is superbly written!. No book worth the paper it's printed on is what you'd call "easy"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I read it in fifth grade!. Im an avid reader and a writer!. I got through it no problem!. If you read alot you should be just fine!Www@QuestionHome@Com
