It's not really fair to ask for a thesis, but you might think about how, for both Dean & Sal, travel is a means of achieving "success" in a way that is outside of a norm they both resist!.

You might also examine how, in On the Road and lots of other "road novels," the "going" is a lot more important than the "arriving!." That is, most books deal with someone wanting something, then working to get it, and then either succeeding or failing (or some combination of the two)!. But in On the Road, the travel is the most important thing; there isn't a goal!. Have you seen that inspirational poster/t-shirt/bumper sticker/whatever that says "Life is a journey, not a destination"!? As lame as that sounds, you could probably write about how On the Road is something like that!. (But, if I were you, I wouldn't mention that cliche!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com
