Not stories with vampires, dragons, strange creatures!. Do you think these people ever read a really interesting book about everyday life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I do, O captain my captain!.!.!.
Remember that (second part) line from The Dead Poet's Society!? It's Ezra Pound, I think!.!.!. no, Emerson!.!.!. ah, a dead poet, anyway!.
Many people besides me also read really interesting books about everyday life!. (Poetry, even!.)

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz won him the '08 Pulitzer for Lit, and it's a really good regular day book, but is special too, like every day is!.
Try it, if you like!.
It's the only book I know with such powerful footnotes, like I've never read before!.!. never!.
And about New Jersey, a culture there!.

ADD: in response to another post here: I think any '!.!.!.action-packed fiction set in history' deals with 'every day' --that only means days that have passed, full of action-- which happens to lots of people every day still, making 'history' for those in the future!. Funny is good as well, every day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think there are a lot of people who read both paranormal stories and "everyday" stories!. While people may stay within one genre for a while, they often switch according to whim!. I may read sexy vampires one day, but non-fiction the next!.

People aren't as two-dimensional as one might assume by what they're reading at the moment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

uh, yes but I think they prefer the "fantasy" ones!. If they read a normal : ) book, they won't like it!.

Well, I'm here!. I like reading and writing about things that can really happen but haven't!. : D

Ciao!

Braces wax,

No one would write a book like the one you described!. Of course, they would add something special in it!. FYI, everyday life is exciting!. That's why we're still alive!. : )Www@QuestionHome@Com

Everyday life!? That's boring!.

Just like I wouldn't sit through a movie about some person going to the store, coming home, cooking dinner, going to sleep, going to work, blah blah blah, I wouldn't sit and read a book about that!.

I don't like the ones about strange creatures, anyway!. That genre's been overdone and killed!. To each their own!. I like funny/action-packed fiction set in history!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm drawn to supernatural stories!. My life is wild and crazy, so it's nice to read something that is just so out there that it could never happen to me!. That being said!.!.!.I do enjoy other genres!. I try to diversify my tastes!. also you have to look at WHO is asking about vampires etc!.!.!. The tweens who are reading twilight! Due to the ever decreasing quality of the US educational system!.!.!.these kids think that books like Twilight are the "greatest books ever written" because they haven't ever been exposed to truely great literature!. I feel like my parents have had me reading since birth! While I'll admit, that when I was in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, I was reading nothing but fantasy books (in my free time anyway), my tastes started maturing!. When I was in 4th grade my mother mandated that I could not read any book with less than 350 pages!. So in 5th grade I started reading the vampire chronicles by Ann Rice!. That opened me up to this whole new world of "adult" authors and genres!. Ever since, I've tried to keep an open mind!. I've been surprised by the books and authors that I've come to love!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To be honest I find books about everyday life rather boring!.
I read for entertainment and relaxation!. I love reading epic stories where I can escape into another world filled with good and evil, monsters and heroes, fantasy creatures, etc!.
I do read some realistic books, but in general I am much more inclined to read fantasy!.

I think that what's so great about fantasy is that often it shows us what we can be, not what we are!. I grew up reading stories about knights in shining armor, chivalry, and heroes, and I honestly think it's made me a better person!. Even though I know certain things are impossible I think that keeping the ideal in mind gives me something to strive for!.
To quote one of my favorite fantasy authors Terry Pratchett: "Fantasy is an exercise bicycle for the mind!. It might not take you anywhere, but it tones up the muscles that can!."

And a dialogue from one of his books that is quite profound:

Death: Humans need fantasy to *be* human!. To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape!.
Susan: With tooth fairies!? Hogfathers!?
Death: Yes!. As practice, you have to start out learning to believe the little lies!.
Susan: So we can believe the big ones!?
Death: Yes!. Justice, mercy, duty!. That sort of thing!.
Susan: They're not the same at all!.
Death: You think so!? Then take the universe and grind it down to the finest powder, and sieve it through the finest sieve, and then show me one atom of justice, one molecule of mercy!. And yet, you try to act as if there is some ideal order in the world!. As if there is some, some rightness in the universe, by which it may be judged!.
Susan: But people have got to believe that, or what's the point!?
Death: You need to believe in things that aren't true!. How else can they become!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm sure there are many people who read realistic fiction!. I like a good balance of both of those types of stories!. I love stories about everyday life, whether it's dramatic or simple !.!.!. but I don't forget to include a good dose of magic in my literature!. :-]Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love fantasy novels!. Although, I'll read anything as long as the plot interests me!. I enjoy good historical books about everyday life and also historical fictions (Little Women, Pride and Prejudice)!. If it's well-written and intriguing, I'll give it a try!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yah actully i really enjoy books about actual real life things! even though i love books about vampires and wizards! so don't judge someone by there favorite books!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

not really a nice story but a well written one that challenges them!. everyone picks up one crap book in their life and enjoys it but serious books are good too!. my personal favorite is Fahrenheit 451Www@QuestionHome@Com

Although I like stories with vampires, dragons, and strange creatures, try Love's Soft Voice!. It is historical fiction!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

sure!. if the story's captivating and well-written, people would read itWww@QuestionHome@Com

I've noticed the same thing, but I'll allow people their individual tastes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
