Question: I have an idea for a story, how should i know my idea is not already taken!?
ok, so i have asn idea, no, a couple ideas, but something always bothers me whenever i have an idea that i can make a whole book out of: there are millions of writers all over the world, especially the united states, and all of them have many story ideas!. how should i know if my new fresh idea (that i got from my own head) is not already taken and in stores!? i mean as i said, there are millions of writers, and i dont know them all, except for the obvious ones, like J!.K!. Rowling, Christopher Paolini, R!.L!. Stine, etc!.!.!.!.yeah, ill make sure that my idea doesnt fall between one of their books that have already been published, but the others!? i dont know if my idea is already taken, i mean, it has to be because there are so many writers!. Just like the dictionary, some words are in it, and some arent, u never know which one is in it and which one isnt (but of course most of them are, but u get the point!.)

What do i do to know that if my idea is taken or not!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Miss Fix It is correct!. I think somebody misunderstood her comment when they gave her a thumbs down!. A good book is a combination of a good idea and good writing!. It's pretty safe to assume that some version of your idea has already been published!. The one thing you have going for you is that you may execute the idea better!.

I'm actually in the same boat as you!. A couple of months ago I came up with an idea for a book that I have never seen or heard of before!. I probably won't find out if there is another book similar to it until I attempt to get it published!. That's just the nature of the beast!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's taken!. Whatever you think of, chances are someone else also thought of it!.

As for an idea for a story, you need a bunch of ideas!. You might have a couple main ideas, but its all those little ideas that make the story!.

Go ahead and write your story!. If the characters and the places are unique, and the story isn't a straight ahead retelling of another, then it is your story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When I write something I've never really care, I just start writing, I do it because I enjoy writing (not saying you don't do it at least partitally for the same reason) but because I enjoy it I just write it any ways, if some one else has the idea already then so be it, besides its unlikely the two ideas would be exactly the same!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's how good the writing is that matters!. Chances are once you start shopping your work around, the agent, editor, or publisher has already seen similar things dozens of times!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
