i absolutely love the gemma doyle trilogy!

but anyway,
if you haven't read the harry potter series, you definitely should!. I was skeptical at first about reading so many huge books, and also about them being nerdy, but I loved them!. The books go by so fast you don't even realize you just read 600+ pages!.
also, the stephanie mayer books are great!. they have everything you seem to like in them!.
nicholas sparks books are great for romance, but are pretty big tearjerkers!.
john saul is good for sort of creepy science fiction/mystery, as is dean koontz!.

there are tons of books out there, what I do is just go to the library, find one with a good title, a good synopsis, and go with it!.

The Lost Regiment series about a Civil War regiment sailing home and getting abducted by giants whose culture has broken down and needs humans for slaves for basic needs (beyond working the teleporters they have lost the ability for anything technical)!. There is other human cultures on the panet and they band together to fight the giants!.

The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander!. It's a series of books that is very much a cross between the Lord of the Ring series and the Lion, Witch and Wardrobe series!.
