Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Charles deLint's 'Jack the Giant Killer' series and 'Moonheart' set fairytale stories in the middle of 1980s Ottawa!.

Emma Bull's 'War for the Oaks' has fairies in Minneapolis!.

also try Neil Gaiman's 'Neverwhere,' which does a similar thing with the London subway system!.

All three authors are excellent reads--and if you like them, the genre you're reading is called "urban fantasy!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer!.
The creativity in that series is incredible!. It's about a twelve-year-old mastermind that discovers the world of fairies!. The fairies are far from what you would expect; completely unique!. A very interesting read!.
