It all depends on the teen!. Most of the teen readers I know are female (the guys usually read sci fi, if anything), but they tend to like books about characters they can relate to in a weird situation!. Like Meg Cabot, pretty much the queen of YA girl literature, writes about a girl who is incredibly flawed who finds out she's actually a princess of a country and has to deal with it!. It's sort of a wish-fufillment thing!. Teens, and many readers, I think, read to make their life more interesting, living vicariously through the protagonist!. If the protagonist feels like a relatable person, they will feel like they're friends with the character, and be along for a fun ride!. They also tend to really enjoy books in which the hottest guy ever falls for a "normal" girl, especially when angst ensues!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Teenagers like to read about a kid who has glasses and magical powers, and goes to a boarding school that teaches how to use those magical powers!.
Throw in some nasty teachers, and a real evil magic guy who talks to snakes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Different teens like different books, but for the most part, I agree with Lani that they like to read about ordinary characters in extraordinary situations!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
