I recommend House of the Scorpion as well, I read that in my youth - it was great!.

For a young adult, you have great taste in books - so many of those have great lessons!. Check out the rest of John Steinbecks work, I love East of Eden, the Pearl, Cannery Row, all of his stuff!.

Lowis Lowry (pardon my spelling) wrote other books that were just as good as The Giver!.

I put a link below to a list of great books, great books of all genres and age groups!. For your taste, I highly recommend reading the books on ALA's Banned Books List, these are not "dirty" books or anything of that such but books like the Giver or etc!.

Ernest Hemingway is very popular with men, I'd try the rest of his body of work!.

I also, oddly recommend Jodi Picoult who seems to be "just for girls" but read her stuff, she has an ability most writers do not to write great pieces with wonderful plot, and characters that you want to just keep reading about!. I recommend Nineteen Minutes for a young adult!.

I think the ultimate young adult novel is Catcher in the Rye!. I think you'd like it because it's very smart and wryly funny--and judging from your other selections, it's clear you're looking for something with more substance than most of the popular YA reads out there!. It's a classic must-read for teens, and superior to most things written today that are targeted to young people!. Hope you enjoy!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Farewell to Manzanar is an excellent book!. I'm glad you liked it!. :)

First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung is a book I highly recommend!. It's non-fiction and it is a true story about the author's struggle and survival in Cambodia when the Khmer Rouge regime took over!.

I came across this book after reading various stories online about war torn Cambodia!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I just recently read the lovely bones its kind of eye opening and very relatable the movie is coming out next year so i definetly recommend it!. It's about a 12 yr old girl who gets raped by her naighbor who's killed many other women and its basically about how her familly copes with her death!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try something by Oscar Wilde or H!.G!. Wells probably!.

Maybe throw some Tolstoy in there (Anna Karenina comes highly recommended) along with some Victor Hugo!.

With a side of Thackaray or Henry James for those days you're feeling a bit off!.
