I found the idea of 'soma' eerily accurate -- medication is prescribed for the tiniest mental abnormalities these days, and it's not unrealistic to imagine that we'll all someday be encouraged to keep our moods level with chemicals!. The trend toward ex-vivo birth isn't unrealistic, either, I've met quite a few (adult) women who don't plan to ever get pregnant because it's "icky"!. If there was an alternative to it, it'd be test-tube babies all the way!. '1984' was great, but I find it hard to imagine that any society formed within the next few hundred years could require the total eradication of individuality!. The virtues of being an individual are too heavily ingrained in our culture!. That sort of thing takes many generations to change!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Oddly, both of them saw the scary part of our computerized world!. I still have to give the nod to 1984!. Newspeak is part of our world!. Watching the propaganda of saying that Iraq was full of WMD and Taliban!. Spend was the best way to help the war effort!. I'm in the advanced English class at school, and usually only the year 11-12's read 1984, but our teacher made us read it in year 8! So nobody really knew what was going on!. It would have been an alright book if we didn't have to analyse the whole thing and if we had read it at a slightly later date!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I like Brave New World, it was interesting and made you think!.
