Question: Do you prefer to read a book online, or in the normal, physical book form!? Or, do you prefer audiobooks!?
Just curious!.

I prefer the normal way of reading a book - that way I can pick it up and take it along with me wherever I go!. Of course, reading online has its perks: whatever I read online is free (I know, libraries are free, too, and they have more than just public-domain selections!. But I live a 20 minute drive away from the local library, and I don't have a car!.), and I can multitask while I read online!. I don't like audiobooks, but I don't really know why I dislike them!. I think it goes along with my dislike of sports commentators on tv: I just don't like most of their voices, so I guess I don't like most audiobook narrators' voices, either!.

So, anyways,!.!.!. your thoughts!? Which do you prefer, and why!?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
neither!. the Amazon Kindle is best- it's portable, it doesn't give you headaches or have glare like comps, and it's more comfortable than holding a book open!. especially if you want to lay down and read!.

except it is expensive

audio comes in second except it's a little lazy!.!. the story is being fed to you so it isn't reading, per se, and the speed and interpretation is up to the speaker!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good question - I definitely prefer to read books in the physical form!.!.!.I couldn't stand to sit in front of a computer and read it off a screen!. I know I'm a dork, but there's also something quite satisfactory about getting through a bog book, and I don't think I would have that sense if I just read it online!. As for audiobooks, not much of a fan, but if I'm on a road trip and not in the mood for music, they're alright!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I prefer the physical, normal book form because when I look at a computer too long, my eyes get really tired!.!.!.!.then when I look at non-computer screen things it looks like they are pixelated!. So I deffinately prefer the normal form!. Audio would be good while driving, but I think my imagination gets a better work out with the normal form!. And like you said, I can take the normal form anywhere and read!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As long as the story is great, any if fine with me!. Though I don't really like audiobooks!. When you read a book, you can imagine yourself what might the characters look like and how they speak!. An audiobook can discourage me in reading a book!.
If all the voices sound stupid, I cannot continue to listen any longer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well I prefer physical books!. Whenever I read online I have a hard time keeping my place and the computer screen starts to hurt my eyes and I can't use my fingers to follow along!. Audio books I just tune out what the audio is saying and then I don't understand what I just heard, I have to be able to follow along to be able to understand what I am reading!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

i dont like audio cuz their voices are weird, its slower than how fast i read, and i dont like it when they do voices for each character!. i know it distinguishes them but they sound so !.!.idk weird!.!.!.
on the internet, if i read to long then my eyes start to hurt!.

I like reading the normal way!. its more comfortable than sitting at my computer chair, and i can lay down or sit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Regular books because it doesn't strain your eyes as much and you have more freedom to get into a comfortable position!. Audiobooks are like tv, it has its own rhythm and it can cause you to miss things if you're attention slips at any time!. This is not a problem when reading yourself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like to be able to hold a book!.You can turn pages and use a bookmark!.!. it doesn't need charging or batteries in order to run well unlike the Kindle and other electronics!. I like to be able to see the stack of books on my shelf then the stack of electronics!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Absotively posilutely the physical form!. It is simple magic having the real thing and by opening it having an entirely new world presented right before your eyes!. the only things I bear reading electronically are articles and short stories, but never ever books!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i like to read a book in normal form because i can get a good picture in my head and at my OWN pace instead of the audioWww@QuestionHome@Com

Physical FormWww@QuestionHome@Com

Normal!.!.!.!.reading, the phsyical book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like to listen to an audio book and follow along on the text!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think online is cool!.
Audiobooks are just fine!.
But I prefer the physical book form!. It's just the way it feels!.

Physical form!. I absolutely love books!Www@QuestionHome@Com

i like to read a book in real life i jus like to hold it when i read it i guess lolWww@QuestionHome@Com

Physical form I think!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do not know why, but whenever I read articles online, I become tired!. I like a real book!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

normal way i always end up doing sumfin else if i try 2 on the internetWww@QuestionHome@Com

Absolutely! Hard-copy is best! We tend to interpret stories in our own way! ;-)=Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would rather have the real thing!. My house is full to the brim with books and I wouldn't have it any other way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A physical book, always!. On line is hard work as there are other things occupying your mind, fiddling with keyboards etc, audio books are like listening to the radio, the interpretation of the reader dominates the listener!. But, curl up in the quiet with a good book and you are totally absorbed!. The author paints the picture just for you!. Everyone's experience of a book is, in a way, unique!. Everyone's imagination is different!. Try reading the same book, at the same time, with a friend and then talk about it later!. Often you'll think that it was a different book!. If we all liked the same things, how boring it would be, but an audio book!. leaves everyone with the same impression!. Someone elses opinion, whether intended or notWww@QuestionHome@Com

I like books, I don't like reading lengthy text online if avoidable, but if I had an mp3 player with video I could see e-books as a viable alternative!.

As for audiobooks, I can't pay attention to them because the only cassette player I have is in the car, and well you can imagine if I took attention from driving it might cause a slight danger to other drivers!.!.!.

Thus, I realize 20 minutes in that I need to hit rewind: I have no idea what the hell is going on!.

On the other hand, it depends on the narrator as well as the story!. Toni Morrison did an audio book of Sula and her story-telling voice is as captivating as her story-writing!. So I guess it depends!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love actual books and the whole process of snuggling into reading!. I love being able to set my own pace and reread parts at leisure!. Even if you have a laptop, its difficult to snuggle with your computer!. And the computer screen wears out your eyes faster!.

I do love audiobooks though for when I'm driving!. I'm just not that into music!. Gasp!! lol, I don't treat myself to checking out an audiobook that often as the library doesnt have a ton and the guy who does the Harry Potter series iritates me!. The service to rent them online can be wonderful but I don't want to have to pay the fees!. Buying audiobooks with my reading habit really isn't much of an option!.

I often spend my driving time working on pieces of my own fiction though- flushing out scenes and characters that need work!. Yah, so I'm that crazy lady talking to herself!. ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Definitely physical form!. There's just something about holding a book when you read it that makes it more!.!. real!. I don't know how to explain it!.

With a book online, it could be free, yeah!. But the glare of the screen hurts my/your eye if you read too long!. Plus if the book or part of the book that is really edge-of-your-seat interesting, it'll suck if your eyes hurt!.

Audiobooks are no good for me!. The person reading the book might go too fast or too slow for my liking!. And the voice matters a lot!. He/she might ruin the mood of the book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I equally prefer to read a book and listen to the audio book!. I find it difficult to read a book, or any other long article online, but if I can find the ebook, I print it out and read it that way (I work in a print shop, so it isn't very expensive for me to print up an ebook)!.

I will usually read a book first, then, if I can find it, listen to the audio book - often at a much later date!. I can't stand commercial radio, so an audio book is a perfect companion in the car!. I have listened to audio books in my car, whenever I drive alone, for at least four years!.

I have found that there are several narrators who are excellent and look for those names when purchasing or borrowing and audio book!. Unlike another poster, I greatly enjoy those narrators that "do the voices" and think the Harry Potter books read by Jim Dale are among the best produced audio books I have heard!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The normal way - always, always, always the normal way!.

Its just not reading a book if you can't physically hold it in your hands and flip through the pages and make marks on them and stick a paper on a page thats your favorite part!.

All my books are loveably worn and beat up!.

I hate audiobooks!. Emphasis on hate!. Especially when its a novel written in first person - I can't put myself in the person's shoes if its someone else thats already doing that (by being the voice of that person)

And reading a book online is terrible - I'd get distracted way too easily, and wouldn't be able to finish it - at least, not happily!.

Yeahh!. Handheld book, handsdown!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
