Question: What's a good fantasy book, if I liked The First Chronicles of Thomas Covenant!?

I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question!. Here it is:

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content!. There is also a "Readers' Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books, plus a full review of "The Golden Compass"!.

For your particular like - the first Thomas Covenant (TC) trilogy - I'd say that the closest thing here (and it's not really close) is the Vance book!. The reason: the anti-hero, and most of the characters are self-interested to the nth degree, and are more than willing to take advantage of others, even if it costs others their lives!. This is dark and *very* funny, as opposed to just plain dark and serious like TC, but I think you will definitely enjoy the excellent characters!. Very similar to TC as far as adult content goes!.

Second best is probably Zelazny's "Amber"!. There, we don't really have an anti-hero, but the hero does have a great deal of self-interest wrapped up in his heroics, and he only shows a half-hearted portion of nobility!. Definitely willing to kill to get ahead, even if it's not "the right thing"!. Mild adult content!.

Third is Thieves' World, which has a large number of anti-heroes!. Just about everyone here is in it for themselves, even the best, most noble-seeming characters!. The Shadowspawn stories are absolutely fantastic, equal to Vance!. Mild adult content!.

I hope this helps!.

Similar in that the main characters are forced to make decisions that no one should have to face, and often make ones that cost them dearly!.

The Bone Doll's Twin, Hidden Warrior and Oracle's Queen by Lynn Flewelling
I'm only on first one and I'll be reviewing it soon but its a mix of ghost story and old fashioned fantasy, its on the dark side and again, painful decisions are made and a price for them exacted!.

And I agree with you completely, I do not like the new ones of Thomas Covenant at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
