Question: Why do women read this kind of book!?
I started this book by a very popular woman author!. It is a thick suspense/romance!. As the story develops we meet the hero and heroine!. The sexual tension begins!. Problem is he is an arrogant jerk!. He manipulates her and corners her and makes her life miserable!. I know that as the story develops he will come to respect and love her and all of a sudden he will be a strong capable man standing by her side, helping and protecting her!.
But why do women like stories with arrogant jerk heros!?!?!? I find this all the time in romances!. Do women confuse arrogance with strength!? Don't they realize that if a man is a jerk before he loves them, he is still a jerk after!? And that if she gets on his bad side he is going to be just as big a jerk as he ever was and make her life miserable!? Do women like this kind if man in real life!?!?!?

These type of males are generally known as Alpha males and while they can sometimes come across as absolutely delicious in novels, in real life women would probably stab them with a spork!.!.!.
The idea of it is that through the 'love of a good woman', these men will change and become the ideal mate and women like reading about this, most likely because it is a form of escapism and because it will never happen in reality!Www@QuestionHome@Com
It is actually in the bones and blood of a women!. The chinese has a saying the if men are not bad, women don't love!. If you ask any woman around you, u will find out that every woman hope to be the bad boy's last woman and able to tame him to be their best perfect man!. So in many stories, you will be able to see the desire of we woman who wants to act innocent first so that we can hook the man up the rod, then later tame him to be a nice puppy that is strategy!. I think women just like the idea of having the power of changing an arrogant jerk into a nice, considerate man!. I think that's why women like reading books like these because, like you said, in the real world, most men who are jerks in the beginning of relationships will most likely be jerks in the future!. Some women have self esteem problems!. This allows jerks to take advantage of them!.

I don't like a jerk in real life or in a book! I have, I must admit, read quite a number of romance novels in my time!. It's purely for the escape provided!. However, I lose interest if I think the man is a manipulative jerk and/or the woman is a doormat!.
Perhaps some women like this type of hero, because they think love will change them into different men!. That's just a thought, since I'm really not sure!.
In other words, the guy is really a warm-hearted, sweet man with only a shell of "jerkism" and love will melt away the jerk so the real man will come forth!. (Somewhat like the "bad boy" syndrome!.)
I know that, though I enjoyed Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff irritated me quite a bit!. Brooding is okay, strong and silent type is fine, but a guy consumed by the need for revenge (on anybody and everybody) bugs me!.
