Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I would!.!.!. heck, my favorite girls name is Freya and I got it from Beowulf!.

Oh, and haven't you noticed that in the last year or two Isabella has suddenly become one of the most popular baby names!? They're already doing it!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on the book!. Some names are _great_ and were chosen just for their ring and how effectively they come across!. Although I'm not a fan of his, Dickens is probably the best example--Bob Cratchit, Jacob Marley, Uriah Heep, David Copperfield, Pip, etc!. etc!. etc!.--and how could I forget the inimitable Ebenezer Scrooge!

I'm not saying I'd name my kid Pip or Uriah (or if I did I'd make sure they had one heck of a normal middle name)--but there's an example of very, very effective naming!.

Plus, everyone named "Jessica" is named after Shakespeare anyway, since he invented the name! But as far as directly appropriating a name--not unless I was really, really in love with the book, and I would make sure the name did not have any bad characteristics--ie, though I like a Confederacy of Dunces, I would never name a kid Ignatius J!. Reilly, because that's just asking for it!.

As far as first names--it's hard to steer clear of Shakespeare and Austen and Dickens when choosing names!. But as far as full names go, speaking as someone who has a parent who shares a name with a famous 19th century author, it's not as amusing as it might seem, and gets old really quickly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My mother named me after a character in a Harlequin Romance Novel!. It's been a long life of trouble for me because of it!. I would avoid it unless the name can be shortened to something more popular or at least give the child a popular middle name they can use later in life if the first name does not work for them!.

Even my second name is quite uncommon and my third name is a last name (I have 2 middle names)!. So I am really stuck!.

Be nice to your child, think of their future :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ehhh!.!.!. it depends on whether I like the name by itself, first, with no association to the character!. If I liked the name and liked the character, sure!. I think I'd be more likely to name pets after characters, or use characters' names as middle names rather than first names!. =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It really depends on the name!. For instance, Juliet and Isabella are both pretty names!. I tend to go for more conservative names!.
