Not much in photography, much more important in painting/etching/etc!., where the different views and expressions in self portraits as an artist grows older have a lot more to study than most photo efforts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In addition to the other answers, I must say: Self portraits MUST be taken with a crappy webcam OR a crappy phonecam OR a really crappy digicam that's on par with webcams/phonecams AT A NINETY DEGREE ANGLE!. One MUST use one's good arm to hold said device at a ninety degree angle, then MUST post results on the internet!. The FINAL STEP is to then spam away on reputable internet boards asking to "plz critik mi pix kthxbai" resulting in TROLLS like me trolling and everyone except the subject lulzing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I guess people take them for different reasons!. I have taken a few!. Mostly because I needed one for my business card , and I figured the way to get what I want was to do it myself!. (no fishlips! hehe)!.

With the pressure put on females to look good in our society, it's no wonder the young ones are obsessed with their looks and with their "myspace" type self portraits!. Being young is painful, so let them have their fun!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's all about vanity!. I find it really amusing when someone asks for a critique of their work, and most of it is self portraits!. I just want to tell them to turn their cameras around and photograph the world outside their skin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Self-portraits feed the needed narcissism that most of today's teens need in order to feel complete!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you're reading too much into it!. Self Portraits aren't a very big dealWww@QuestionHome@Com
