Before buying any lens you need to decide what type of photography you are most interested in!.

Do you like close-ups of flowers and insects!? Buy a macro lens!.

Do you like sweeping landscapes!? Buy a wide-angle lens!.

For landscapes I use a 21mm lens with my camera on a tripod!.

For flowers and insects I use a 100mm macro lens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For my style of shooting, I couldn't function without a wide angle, or wide angle zoom!. I usually have two bodies equipped with wide zoom and telephoto zoom, or a similar combination!. But that's me!.

You, however, shoot a lot of great closeups that benefit from a good macro/portrait lens - like the awesome dragonfly shots!. I'm not sure what direction you are going with your photography - and maybe you aren't either yet!. But that's OK!. I can tell you that you have a knack for closeups!.

Wide angles are great for scenics and vacations, if you are thinking about that upcoming vacation!. I couldn't imagine a vacation without a wide angle!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I generally have been on a normal prime lens kick lately!. For the most part (save the shooting I have to do to get the pictures for my emulsion lifts), I either have my old rangefinders with a normal fixed lens, or my Canon A1 with a 50mm f/1!.8!.

Unless there are actual problems with me approaching the subject, I tend to use normal lenses!. Admittedly I don't do much in the terms of portrait work, so I as I branch off a little more, I may be getting a 100mm or so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The lens that is on my Fuji S-5 the most is, Nikon's 28~200 zoom!.

It offers the best of a few different worlds having the zoom range it does and it's close focus ability isn't too bad for a lot of things!. No, it is NOT a macro, I have a 60mm f/2!.8 and a 120mm f/4 for my macro work!. But the 1:3 ratio isn't too bad for some things!.

If I need wider I have a 18mm and a 16mm fish eye!.

Not knowing the camera make you have, not that it matters tho, but I would say go for a good zoom and cover many bases at once!.
