Question: Nikon D700 question, part 2, conclusion!. Help!?
Okay, I asked a question 3 hrs ago (I'll post link on additional details) about a camera that I purchased through a local retailer that did the special order!.

It turns out I wasn't just missing a battery, I was ripped off! Not only does my class start in a week, and not only does it take 3 1/2 weeks to ship to where I am, but my Nikon D700 was taken out of the box and replaced with a Sony A200 (camera, lens, and charger)!. I'm really angry that my local retailer had to resort to a "grey market" as what other posters said, and charged me $4,700 for an already dropped price of a Nikon D700!. I'm so fed up right now I don't know what to do!. What do you recommend that I do!? How do I tell my local retailer that I don't want anything to do with them anymore!? I want a refund, what should I do if they tell me it's not possible!?

Man, you got screwed!. You could threaten them with the BBB, but if you used a credit card, just call your bank and tell them they ripped you off and for them to credit your money back - that's usually quicker than going to the merchant!. Many credit card companies don't put up with that nonsense and will do all the investigations for you!.

Here's a word of advice - never pay more than suggested retail price!. NEVER! Why on earth would you pay $4700 for a camera that's sold for $3600 (with a lens!) at every other reputable merchant!? Hell, if you typed nikon D700 in google, B&H pops up in the sponsored links!. If you see a link for more than nikon itself suggests the price should be, the price is gouged!. Only scam artists gouge or claim the lowest prices!. That's a multi-thousand dollar camera, there IS no such thing as a deal!. You get it for what it's worth, and it's the hottest camera on the market!. Let this whole experience serve as a lesson to you!. Even if you could claim to have not known about B&H as your excuse - a simple google search would have given you several alternatives like amazon, B&H, calumet, and adorama - all of which will not scam you!. I recommend B&H, I buy there all the time!. I recently got the 16-85mm VR, paid under retail, added an additional $20 for next day shipping (I could have settled for their standard free 3-5 day shipping, but I'm one of those "I want it now" kind of people), on a thursday morning and got on friday morning - in exactly 24 hours!. That lens retails at ritz/wolf for $750, I got it at B&H for $529!. There are deals to be had, you just have to use common sense!.

Next time you have a class or something, get a cheaper camera!. You didn't need a thirty five hundred dollar camera for photography class!. Serves you right!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Huh!? Almost $5000 for a D700!?!? Are you in the US!? Order from B&H and insist on a refund from your local place!. B&H price with the 24-120vr lens is $3599 with free shipping!. B&H is a trusted retailer, with a real store in NYC!. They sell real cameras in the right box from the real manufacturer!. I have ordered many things, including expensive lenses and cameras over the years, and they have never disappointed!. As for returning the Sony/Nikon, I don't think the store has a choice!. If they refuse, have a lawyer write a nice letter!. I bet they pony up quick!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

B&H doesn't always have the best prices but they do have a good reputation within the field of photography and I would entrust them with your purchase!. Go back to your local retailer, insist on a refund, order your camera from B&H and get next day shipping on your D700 !. I doubt that the camera store you got the camera from was purposely trying to cheat you with such an obvious switch, but if this is the sort of thing which happens frequently at their store then I doubt that they will be in business much longer, especially if you take the time to tell everyone in your photo class and on every photo blog what kind of business that store does!. In case the company refuses to give a refund, tell them that you will take legal action and get a lawyer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
