It means that someone pays you to have you draw something they want!.

For example, I just commissioned someone to draw the main characters in the book I just finished writing!. I want to commission someone else to do a book cover for me!.

If you want to have someone buy your art, I suggest deviantART!. It's a great place with a LOT of publicity!. I'm a member there and it's fantastic!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

to be commissioned, the patron usually approaches the artist!. for example, someone knew that I did jewelry making so he asked me to make a necklace for his daughter and he would pay me for it!. the patron has a say in what you make!. if they don't like it, then they don't have to pay for it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
