Question: What are ways to finish the edges of my canvas!?
I like the look of unframed paintings, but I always make a mess on the edges of my canvasses when I paint, thru normal handling with painty hands, slop over the edge, etc!. I have seen paintings finished with black paint on the edges of the canvas (for unframed paintings) but this is too dark imo for some of my summery paintings!. Would it be good to use one of the more muted colors from a painting & do the edges in that!? Or does almost everyone just frame their paintings!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Depending upon the subject matter, I used to paint the edges of my canvases!. For example in a landscape, I would paint the sky blue of course and paint the canvas as well!. Of course this is optional!. Too, I used to strip frame them and this is relatively easy to do!. This can be done economically with a few strips of wooden molding from a lumber yard!. This may seem difficult at first but once you do one, it will become a lot easier!.!.!.!.Good luck and GOD blessWww@QuestionHome@Com

It's up to you which colour you use to paint the edges of the canvas!.
I usually pick a lighter shade of the main colour of the image!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My advice would be to use a neutral gray of a medium value!. I know an artist who paints colorful acrylic paintings and he always uses gray to finish the edges of his canvas!.

I hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com
