I have a 17-85mm lens on my Canon 350D and it′s really good!. You get more clarity and sharpness with it than with the 18-55mm lens!. So much better!.

I saw it on amazon for 170 dollars!.!.!. don′t know if that′s to pricey, but I think it′s a fair price!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hey Ross,

Most people have already said the focal range that you are looking for!. They're all pretty much spot on!. You also want to look for a nice fast lens with a circular aperture for super bokeh :)

Primes are obviously the best idea:

On a 1!.6x crop body like yours the 50mm f1!.8 is a wicked lens for the price (it's dirt cheap, seriously!

The other two lenses are also good (the 50mm f1!.4, reasonable price and 50mm f1!.2L, expensive!)!. I've also heard good things about the new Sigma 50mm f1!.4, it's a lot bigger than all the other 1!.4's on the market and it has a massive 77mm filter thread but it comes highly recommended!. You'll pay a bit more for it than the Canon 1!.4 though!.

If you're not a fan of fixed focal length lenses then the 24-70F2!.8L is a cracking standard zoom lens! also if you're looking at going 1!.3 crop or full frame then the 70-200f2!.8L can effectively be used as a portrait lens too!.

Personally I'd use the primes as a f1!.x apertures are much more suitable for portraits!. Especially indoor & low light!.

When 35mm film cameras were the norm, a focal length between 85mm to 105mm was considered the ideal focal length for portraits!. With the 1!.6 "crop factor" of your camera, a 50mm f1!.8 lens makes a good portrait lens!.

Of course, if you have the 18-55mm zoom you can manage to take portraits with it until you get the 50mm!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For cheap money you can get the 50mm F1!.8!. It is very sharp fast lens though it does feel like a toy!. Cost is about $90!.

If you can spend a little more get the 50mm F1!.4 ($350)!. It is a little faster but is much better built!. You can also use an 85mm F1!.8!. This is getting a little long but is still a very good lens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

a 50mm f1!.x or a 85mm f1!.x will do you, primes are so much sharper!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need a 90mm lens, or a zoom that covers 90mm!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
