It is always, partly at least, a matter of taste but you have also hit upon the celebrity culture factor, quite rightly, which is now so much a part of the saleability of an artist!. The charisma, shock value, quirkiness and aloof or strange coolness of the individual matters almost as much as their talent, even more so sometimes!. The fact of the matter is that an artist like Emin has these qualities in abundance, she, like Damien Hirst, is interesting, shocking, unpredictable, weird, thought provoking, agenda pushing and perhaps a personification of modern, prized, British values!. At the moment, talented or otherwise, this sells; and some! It won't last, art is an evolving subject, currently skill, persona and celebrity are highly valued, it has not always been this way and nor will it stay that way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com She's one of the few female artists in Britain who deals with ordinary feelings and humanity in her work!. Her work has a rawness to it that speaks to lots of people and that's why they love her!. It's also riddled with insecurity and that is attractive when so much art is pompous and overconfident about what it's trying to say!. It was 'cool' to like her, of course!. But that's partly because no-one had done stuff like the 'bed' before!. Anybody could have done it!. My family is a mass of artists musiains!. dancers and many painters we all have are own personality in which we put in to our art!. Personally I loved the tent what a brilliant idea!. All those who have won the Turner Prize did so on their own gumption I love Salvador D, Hockney and pop art whether cool or not if I wanted a landscape I would take my own photo of a landscape that means something to me!. I went to Art College!. Her work reminds me so much of some of the prats who I went there with!. I mean one of my peers produced Art that consisted of what looked suspiciously like discarded chip wrappers!. She must have given good BS, since she got a first class honours!. Go figure!.!.!. Emin is first class at being drunk and possibly gives good mouth to those that listen to her!.
