Question: Where is a good place to get my art work scanned!?
I have about half a dozen pieces of art work, on average 11x14 inches, that I would like scanned so I can email the image or use it online!.

I've tried Kinko's (or whatever they're called now) and other similar office/copy type places, and they want about $8 per scan!.

Is there another possible resource I might look to!? I don't know anyone who owns a scanner and I'm not a student!. Flat bed scanners are out of my price range!.

Is the $8 per scan the going price or should I be looking elsewhere!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi Eric,

I have used Kinko's for similar jobs!.You are right, they are kind of pricey!. The employees at my store, however, are slightly more knowledgeable than at Staples or Office Depot, and they usually have the right equipment for the job, so I think it is worth the price, especially since your scans are larger than the average flatbed scanner!. Being that you're an artist I'm sure you want the best results possible!.

Now that I'm thinking of it, my local library offers scans, too!. I've never used them, but maybe that's a possibility!.

Here are more ideas:

-- I remember seeing one artist on eBay who takes digital pictures of her artwork!.

-- I also remember, while in grad school, seeing a girl who took photos of her art, turned them into slides, and then scanned the slides in a slide scanner (most scanners have a slot where you can scan slides or negatives)!. Maybe this would be easier!.

-- Finally, for a little more than 6 copies at $8/scan ($48), you can find a good used scanner on eBay!. I love my hp scanjet 3970, which I bought around 6 years ago for $99, and have scanned all kinds of artwork on it!. However, it is a little smaller than your artwork, about 8!.5 x 14 inches!. In any case I found a listing on eBay for a flat price of $50 (+ shipping)!. See below!.

Whatever you choose, it is not that hard to use Microsoft Photo Editor to edit your work (for example, connect pieces together from several scans)!.

Take care!

Scanners are cheap and there is one trick you CAN use to cut your costs immensely (I try to keep my drawings simple enough to accommodate it)!. Find a xerox machine you like -- which reproduces well!. Copy your pieces at 67%!. That will reduce them from 11x14 to roughly 81/2x11!. Twenty dollars will get you a canon scanner which will scan the 8 1/2x11s into your computer nicely!. Or you will find some places cost less to scan them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
