Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Student quality paint uses inferior or less pigment in their paints, which means when you paint with it you will not be able to get the coverage, depth, or intensity that you would with artist's quality pigments!. For instance, watercolors will look wishy-washy and pale!. Student quality also uses more binder and filler in their paints, often causing the colors to be chalky or muddy and the paint to not be as smooth or amenable to different techniques!. More binder also means it often takes more paint to get the same effects as less paint of artist's quality!. Student quality paints may also be much more likely to fade or discolor over time!. I recommend buying the very best you can afford, and there are some very good artist's quality paints out there for reasonable prices!. And if it is watercolor you are talking about, they last a long time because you do add water! For instance, Daniel Smith tubes of watercolor run an average of about $8 a tube (depending on color) and because they are heavily pigmented and good quality, will give you many paintings before you even have to consider replacing them!
