Check out these four images, particularly the last two: http://www!.flickr!.com/photos/samfeinstei!.!.!.

Wide angle would be anything under about 35mm or so and telephoto would be anything above 85mm!. I'm speaking in terms of 35mm equivalence, because I don't know what kind of camera you have!. If you have a typical point and shoot, the wide angle would be down around 6-8mm and the tele up around 12-15mm or more!. The focal lengths for most DSLR's are as indicated on my examples!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hello,

Wide angle lenses are especially useful when shooting large landscapes or if you're aiming for some special effects since they do distort facial features, especially towards the edges of the photo!.
On the other hand telephoto lenses will help you capture far away objects, at the same time allowing for far less, if any, distortions!. That's why they're best suited for portrait or wildlife photography!.

If you're looking for examples, i've uploaded quite a few on http://www!.artsilo!.com!. Almost all of the photos show the most important EXIF information, so you can see which ones are wide (below aprox 50mm) and which are tele!.

Hope it helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Telephoto doesnt necessarily mean that the lens can zoom!. There are prime lenses which have a fixed focal length, but are still considered telephoto!.

50mm (about 75mm equiv!. on a digital camera) is 'normal', which is a compromise between WA and telephoto!.

Theres a focal length simulator out there that lets you play around with an example photo, but I can't find the link again!.!.!.i'll stop by again if I can find it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
