If you have a PC, you can download a viewer from Microsoft so you can view your NEF files

Depending upon which Nikon DSLR you have and Photoshop version you have, you can download a RAW plug-in which will allow you to process any of the RAW files you need to convert to JPEG or TIFF files!.

BTW, some of the newer Nikon's have RAW converters on-board !.!.!. yes, you can actually make the conversion in the camera!. One such camera is the Nikon D60Www@QuestionHome@Com

NEF is Nikon's RAW format!. You will need some version of Photoshop (Elements will do), or Nikon's own RAW converter to turn them into jpegs!. When you see how much more control RAW format gives you over the final result you'll realize you made a good choice after all!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

If they are RAW, they should be better than JPG!. The only thing that you need is to open it with other program!.

Just open it in Photoshop and save them in JPG, and everything would be all right Www@QuestionHome@Com

Photoshop will open!. you and covert to jpeg for you final output!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Breathe!. It's okay!. No amount of freaking out would fix it!. Just listen to these guys!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

NEF stands for Nikon Electronic File - which means you shot with a Nikon!.

As newer versions of Photoshop are released - about every eighteen months- they stop updating previous versions!. So, if your Nikon is new - you will likely need a new version of Photoshop!.

Start with your current version - if it has "Adobe Camera Raw!."

Otherwise, you can use Adobe Lightroom, or Apple's Aperture!.

ACDSee has a version that will open NEF files, and it's less expensive than photoshop!. However, I get better results with PS and LR than I do with ACDSee!.

There are other raw processing programs available!.

The point is, aside from the expense of buying the correct software, there is nothing wrong with having shot raw!.

I have the unfortunate task of working with jpegs I shot before I switched to raw - and it's really tough to fix some of my exposure and color mistakes!. Fortunately, the most important photo (100+ people in a group shot) I shot raw!.

I think Lightroom or Aperture are your best bets for going raw!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
