Question: Nikon Or Canon!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!?
I know I've been asking a lot of camera questions lately but I just want to make sure I get the best camera for my money!.

Now I'm trying to decide between the Nikon D40 (a DSLR) and the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS (P&S)

I want a Nikon, and I want a DSLR so that I can change lenses!. But the Canon has the same features, but with a way better zoom!. And the live view pops out, so when taking self portraits, it makes it easier for me!. Or when recording video!.

What do you think!? Opinions please!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Canon is compatible with any lens that canon ever made

Nikon only goes back so far with compatible lenses"

A quote!.

TOTALLY WRONG

Nikon is compatible, Canon is not!. I just bough a Nikon 300mm 2!.8 manual focus lens, built in 1998 to use on a D300!.

I have always used Nikon's, but!.!.!. Nikon had a serious edge in manual focus days, and lost it when AF became the norm!. Canon took over the pro market with faster AF lenses!. Nikon lenses are now just as fast with AF, and to me Nikon glass has always been better!.

One part of the decision is easy, always get a DSLR over a P&S!.

Get Nikon if you might want to get some expensive lenses i!.e!. a used Nikon manual focus 300mm 2!.8 lens is 1,000!.00, an auto focus 300 2!.8 Nikon or Canon is 3,500+!. It's not just the high end lenses, any old manual focus Nikon lenses will still work (50mm 1!.4 manual is 150!.00, a 50mm 1!.4 AF is 250!.00)!. Some Nikon cameras provide metering with old lenses, some don't!.

The logistics are a big part too, if a friend of yours has a Canon DSLR, and you go out and shoot together, you have more available lenses between the two of you if you choose Canon!.

Nikon or Canon is really the Coke or Pepsi question!.

Just like I wouldn't compare a truck with a sub- compact car, cant really compare the two!. I would suggest considering what you will do w camera next 2-3 years, and be realistic!.
If its carry in pocket, quick clicks of friends, then get a p&s!.
If planning to take more complex shots, willing to carry around a camera bag, willing to invest the time and money - go dslr!. I have both, a canon 40D w high quality L lenses, tripod, filters, etc and a Panasonic TZ5 p&s!. SO!.!.!.
after pick type of camera - next step - go to store and pick them up, what feels better in your hands!. Thats why I use Canon, I like the feel better, I'm used to where the buttons are etc!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well if you really really like the live view on the Canon P&S then get that one because DSLR camera's don't have live view at all (unless you hook them up to a computer)!. With a DSLR you have to use the viewfinder every time!.
If you buy the DSLR, Canon having a better zoom shouldn't be an issue because you can simply buy different lenses to have the same options!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well both r good but if u r looking for a good camera for being a photographer i think is advisable to buy the Nikon i have a canon and it's good but if ur trying to become a photographer is better to buy the Nikon for different reasons

1) it'll help in the long haul if u trying to become and professional photographer

and

2) it'll last longer in the sense of the technology becoming so advanced

so i hope what im putting as an answer will help u thanks and good luck on ur choiceWww@QuestionHome@Com

well i personally like canon, it's just had really good cameras!. i'm getting the canon 40d, which is one of those cameras that you can change the lens and stuff!. seems to be a pretty good camera!. i defiantly recommend canon though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whatever!.

Addendum:

It's sort of a silly question!. You want us to compare a dSLR to a dP&S!. I didn't want to sound biased but I would take any of Nikon's APS-C dSLRs over ANY digital P&S camera!. So it goes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Canon is compatible with any lens that canon ever made

Nikon only goes back so far with compatible lenses

Both good cameras though

It's a Coke or Pepsi kind of question

Both canon and Nikon make great camerasWww@QuestionHome@Com

I've never owned a Nikon!. I liked my last non-digital Canon so much that when I bought a digital I went Canon and haven't regretted the decision!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Fuji S-5 - Built on a Nikon D-200 D-SLR body and has the best color rendering chip ever made!. It is Fiji's chip, not someone else's, like Nikon or Canon and has more truer color and dynamic range than any one as well!.!.

The Fuji S-3 (been out for a few years now) and the newer S-5 do indeed have - Live View - too, and before many others did!.!.!.

It WAS a $2500 camera but now is around $500 at many mail order houses!.

Ffordes in Scotland is selling them for US $550!. Shipping is $45 - https://secure!.ffordes!.com/index!.htm

Nikon has a mount, a lens mount that is world famous!. It is the F mount and hasn't changed in 50 years!. Virtually any lens Nikon has ever made with the F mount will fit virtually every camera body, with the F mount!. Few exceptions!.!.!

Think about this for a moment and let is set in!. Any camera, any lens, as long as it is the F mount!. The lens could be a Sigma!. A Tamron!. A Vivitar, etc!.!. and of course - Nikon!.!.!. Their optics are also world renown!.!.

Because Fuji D-SLR's use donor bodies from Nikon (but Fuji rebuilds the insides) the lens issue is the same here!. I can use many of my older manual lenses as well, and they DO meter couple, just no auto focus!.!.

Anyhow, you KNOW what you want!.!.! Just do it and be happy with your choice!. The image quality between the two, especially in prints WILL be noticed and seen!. They may look good on screen, but not the same when in hard copy and glossy 8x10's!.!.!.!

It's funny why people don't buy for image - quality - instead of the name brand they can show off around their necks!.!.!.
