If the price is not the issue, the only thing the 1!.4 is better at is at light gathering (almost one stop faster), so you can expect using lower ISO thus dealing with less noice!.

They are both extremely sharp and maybe the 1!.4 is aa bit sharper at f/1!.8, expected!.

Both lenses have 7 diaphragm blades and not really good bokeh, but the new 50mm 1!.4G was introduced by Nikon recently and is expected soon, which has 9 blades and will probably have much better bokeh!.

Personally, I don't think the price difference is worth it over the 1!.8!. Less than one stop difference will make little difference with todays' sensors and the D80 has relatively good high ISO performance!.

My advise is buy this lens only if you mainly shoot low light photos, otherwise you are practically never going to use the lens at its fast aperture setting eitherway!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This depends on how much money you wish to spend!. The 1!.8 is cheaper and still provides sufficient speed!. I have a 1!.8 and it works well for me, I saw no need to spend the extra money!. So IMO, the price difference isn't worth it!. The newer 50mm AF-S f/1!.4 is a nice lens, shown here: http://www!.kenrockwell!.com/nikon/50mm-f1!.!.!. is a vast improvement in terms of autofocus accuracy and speed!. If I didn't already have the older 1!.8, perhaps I'd think about it!. Neither lens is as good as my nikkor 50mm f/1!.4 AI-s manual focus lens, even the newer 1!.4 is not as good as the older one!. But, it's all relative, I guess!. On a D80, 50mm is a short telephoto - not normal!. So keep that in mind!.

If you were going to get the 1!.4, get the new AF-S version, not the old AF version because you'll be wasting your money!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

specifications would tell you that the 1!.4 is the best buy!. Practically, however, the 1!.8, not even a stop off, is the best buy for the money!.

People who buy on specification and specification alone spend too much money on things!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I just got the f1!.8 because i couldn't afford the f1!.4

The 1!.4 is like 4 times the price

But it all depends on your budget really

The 1!.8 is seen as a classic lens
