Question: What do I do with my charcoal drawing!?
So I recently finished my very first charcoal drawing and I'm giving it to a friend for her birthday!. Now if you've done charcoal before, you know that it smears like crazy!. I've been told that there is some spray that you buy and spray on the drawing to make it glossy and it seals the drawing so it doesn't smear!. I went to the store and there's one that's a matte and one that's a gloss!. What's the difference and does it matter which one I choose!? And is there another way to protect my drawing before I give it as a present!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Matte means that it will just seal the drawing without shine, Glossy means that it'll be shiny even when it dries!.

You could also use good old-fashioned hairspray!. That's what a lot of us do in order to save money (those fixatives are damned expensive), and they work just as well!. Just make sure you test the spray out before hand (don't want to find out there's some malfunction in the spray or that there's color in it), find a well-ventilated area (go outside), and spray it lightly over the whole picture!. Make sure you don't saturate it too much in one area!. Let it dry completely!.

If you're still not sure, I'm sure you could look deeper into the method online!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
