If you shoot mostly landscapes, I'd expect you to be interested in an (ultra) wide angle lens!. If you currently use the 18-200mm VR, that means you're using a Nikon DX body!. That would make the Nikon 12-24mm the obvious choice!.

Both of the lenses you're considering now offer less wide angle coverage than your current lens (the 28-75mm hardly has any wide angle coverage after the 1!.5 crop factor!.) To me, that makes them LESS suitable for landscape photography!.

And you'd be paying a hefty primium for the constant f/2!.8!.!.!. which is fantastic for many applications but it adds nothing for landscape photography!. For landscapes you should be stopping the lens down to at least f/8!. When you stop lenses down by this much, you even out the paying field in terms of image quality!. A $1000 lens that shines at f/2!.8 will still shine at f/8!.!.!. a $300 lens that's soft at f/4 will also be tack sharp at f/8!.

So these are two great lenses, but i!.m!.h!.o!. they don't make a lot of sense for your intended purpose!. The 24-70mm might make a good general use lens though!. Just check how often you use the 18-24mm range on your current zoom!. I use a Nikon D200 and personally, I need something that starts at 18mm!. A 24-xx lens would be perfect if I had a full frame Nikon D700 or D3 camera!.!.!. but I don't!. (I don't see the point of buying lenses for cameras I don't have/ won't have for several years!. I need lenses that I can use NOW!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You choices will cut out the telephoto advantage of the 200mm end!. However, you did say that you shoot landscapes!. So the loss will not be great!.

A general guideline that many experienced photographers use is that the zoom range is generally indirectly correlated with the quality of the optics because of compromises that must be made in designing the lens!. The 18-200 has greater than a 10X zoom range!. The other two are closer to 3X!. All things being equal, they will give you better optical quality!. Bear in mind, however, that there are other factors that contribute to optical quality!. You would be best advised to look up reviews of these lenses before you make you choice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I use the Canon version of the Tamron lens!. It is very sharp, I like it a lot and am very pleased with the purchase!.

I do have occasional issues with autofocus in low light conditions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

While there is nothing wrong with Tamron or Sigma lenses there is no question that Nikkor lenses are superior!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
