Why are close-up photos often so flattering?

Question: Why are close-up photos often so flattering!?

When I have close-up photos of myself taken, I look really pretty and exotic!. But if they're taken at a standard distance, I just look normal!.

I've noticed a lot of people use extreme close-ups of themselves for their photo avatars and they look great, but you can see that in real life they probably just look averagely attractive!.

I was wondering what the technical reason for this is; I'm interested and don't know much about photography!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is something special about a person's eyes - they say so much about that person!. Perhaps they really are our "window to the soul"!.

In close ups, we concentrate on the eyes!.!.!.!.!.!. perhaps that is why!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
