That's Ivan Albright at work!. He used to make his own paint and was unbelievably meticulous, often using a brush with a single hair for the final details!. Because he was experimental and secretive, the exact composition of the paint on each work is not known; however, it is thought that he worked primarily in oils, being a traditional kind of guy!.

The somewhat whitish appearance of the paintings, though, would lead me not to rule out egg tempera (compare Andrew Wyeth)!. It is not likely to be acrylic as he died in the early 80's, when acrylics were not as technically advanced as they are now, and also he was too much of a traditionalist!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
