In this painting, the bold colors are more representative of his own style, it doesn't indicate any specific skills!. The lines are a bit indicative of a transition from cubism to something else ( not defined) You have to understand that "Picasso was his own world" and he was defining an entirely new period in art!. The term "art appreciation" comes into play here, Picasso "like the beatles" was either Loved or hated during the time that he was coming into his own!. Another thing you have to understand is the term "laughing all the way to the bank"!.!.!.!.The story goes,: One day after Pablo Picasso was actually paid (some huge sum of money) without any hassle, he rode to the bank in a limousine to deposit the money and while in the back seat, he was laughing because he couldn't believe someone would actually pay him for his work!. This may seem kinda weird and untrue but it is a published story about him and thus the term "laughing all the way to the bank!. Now, I've been an artist for 33 years for a living and I can and have appreciated alot of work of all kinds and I've actually handled two original Picasso drawings!. I can understand how he thought so poorly of himself and I can also understand how more and more as he grew older, only his wife would be a middleman (so to speak) for him because Picasso's life was so self critical as was he, I imagine most artists feel some kind of separation between themselves and the rest of the world but Picasso was an outstanding example of this!. As for the painting you refer to: One of Picasso's favorite thing to do was to be sarcastic and bigger than life,!.!.!.!."to represent a woman reading a book" is almost like His saying "I wish"!.!.!.!.!.!.all the lines are over perspectivated which sez!.!.!.!.!.!.!."his idea of reality is being eithger understated or over stated" so the entire painting is kind of a study in "how can he be more sarcastic!?"!.!.!.!.!.!.!.I hope this has helped you,!.!.!.!.you dont have to agree with me, I'm just offering what I know about him from the stories I've read and the books I've studied!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
