It was the fashion of the day to remove the eyebrows!. Women today do much the same thing when they pluck and some go the extra mile and pluck out all the hair, then they paint eyebrow lines where they like!.

if you look you will notice the eye lashes are also missing
as far as i can say there is no real mystery
i believe da vinci painted them but over the years they have faded or someone has performed a poor cleaning job on the area around the eyesWww@QuestionHome@Com
