Question: I'm wondering if religious people of the early 1900's ever spoke out against photography!.!?
Did preachers ever talk about the second commandment ( "not making the likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth!?" Exodus 20:4)!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Very interesting question!. I haven't been able to find any reference online to historical accounts concerning this issue, but I would imagine that the groups that are opposed to photography now always have been, and this would probably have been addressed from the pulpit at some point!.

The Amish are opposed to photography!. An Amish website FAQ describes this as based on the verse you mentioned!. See:

Excellent question!. The quakers had a problem with it sometimes!.

However, the quote above, out of context, appears to only apply to things in the sky and in caves!.

Must people during those times lived above ground but not in the sky!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That commandment is specifically speaking about Worshiping those "likeness" (read the next verse) as in Idol Worship; not just making something for Art!.
But probably some people were afraid of photography back then, religious or no!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
