Between only those two, I'd go with the xsi!.

I know you said don't suggest any other cameras but you may want to take a look at the Nikon D40!. It's cheaper than both those DSLRs so you will have extra cash for other things like a tripod, a prime lens, external flash, filters, bag, and etc!.

The D40 is just like the D60 but has less MP and no dust sensor!. If you're careful with your equipment then you won't get dust on your sensor!. MP shouldn't be the leading factor in choosing a camera either unless you want poster sized prints!.

The d60 and xsi are both great cameras from two great manufacturers but I'd stick with the d40 if I was on a budget!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I will have to go with Mr!. Rockwell!. Buy the Nikon D40 and get two lenses for your money!.

Remember you are buying a system, not a camera!. Choose the system you want to be married to for the next few decades and then pick the entry level camera you can afford!.

The best way to do this is to walk into a camera store and try using both cameras !.!.!. even go so far as to take an SD memory card with you and take some photos using the highest ISO and other important settings like white balance and using their 18-55 mm lenses at a few of their focal lengths !.!.!. then take the card home and look on your computer to see which one YOU like the best for all the reasons that are important to you!.

Stuff you will want to know!.

And perhaps the most important thing to know,

Well honestly they are both good camera's!. They are very similar each has a few things the other does not!. What it really comes down to is how they feel in your hand!. Both make great lenses and you can upgrade later if you decide to do so on the body of the camera!. Pick them up feel them try them out a little most quality camera stores will let you do this!.

You will find fanatics for each brand but it boils down to that they are both fine choices!. If you were open to other choices I would have suggested you look at the Olympus e-520 which is in that price range too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

XSi

Because Canon makes some darn fast glass!.

In my opinion you should buy the cheapest APS body you can find!. Spend your precious money on glass and upgrade to FF as prices for those bodies fall in the near future!.

(I could never recommend a D60 because it does not have a built-in AF motor!. I heartily recommend the Nikon D80 or D3!.)
