hands down, the Nikon D40!.
It's a dslr so you have the option to adjust everything you could ever possibly want to adjust!.

It's more lightweight than most DSLRs and it feels great in your hands!.
Takes amazing pictures and is built well!. The MP is only 6!.1 but MP shouldn't be a leading factor in your decision making process unless you're planning on printing out poster sized prints!.

You can find the D40 for about $450 anywhere online!. But you should check out www!.beachcamera!.com

Spend that extra $50 bucks on a bag/case and a UV filter to help protect your lens!.

The bag/case will help keep dust off your camera when not in use!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My suggestion to you would be to get the canon G-9!. You can find them for right at $500!. It's a 12!.1 megapixel camera with alot of features, as well as the ability to shoot with manual settings!. If you want to get into photography without spending 1000 and up, I would suggest this camera!. You can get more out of this camera than most other compact cameras due to the ability to shoot in the manual settings and the optional equipment you can buy for it!. If I was just getting into photography and hadn't already spent 2000 plus on my equipment I would get this camera in a heart beat!. In fact I am still thinking about getting it for a backup!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best photography is possible when you know focus, apertures and speed combination to achieve desired results!. These days camera are mostly automatic, which leave nothing for the photographer, but a click!. I learn photography on a YASHICA 635, if you are lucky enough to find that obsolete model, you will enjoy seeing the mistakes you mistakes in your results, and correcting those next time will give you more knowledge about photography!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is a wide variety of compact and subcompact digital cameras that are all of very high quality!. Since you are a beginner, my suggestion would be to get a camera that has a large selection of "modes"!.

For example, portrait, landscape, action, nighttime, sunset, etc!.

These modes will help your camera make the best exposure decisions so that you end up with a wonderful photograph in various conditions!.

Here are some of my recommended cameras:

It really is hard to beat the basic Mamiya RB67 or Nikon FG for beginning photography!. Both can be had for far under $500 even with a good prime!.

Exquisitely made cameras that produce a great image!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
