Question: Care to join me for a drink!?
Some of our most celebrated photographers used & abused alcohol or drugs!. And had their share of physical or emotional misfortunes!. And still, in spite of, or as a direct result of those influences produced great works we all study!. In this day, do we or can we, expect the same greatness in our future photographers with out those influences!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

The easy answer is no!. I say that because through pain and avdersity do we find "art" or are able to reach that deeper level of our being!. Yet, I wouldn't say this will be the case in all aspects!.

Good question!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think, like current photographers, future photographers will have a greater ratio of those that use/used drugs (alcohol is a drug) than their predecessors!.
Youth should be encourage to explore mind expanding influences, but not drugs!. In today's society some would be just as influenced if they were taken off mood altering prescription drugs!. Recreational drugs are a personal choice requiring a mature and responsible decision!.

Regarding youth drinking!. Of course not!

Medicine has shown that alcohol has a terrible effect on the developing mind!. Many people should not drink until around 22 or 23!.

Besides, it is illegal in most states for people under 21 to drink anyway!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Youth no, no, no

its an intertesting question, Hemmingway and The Beatles are great examples of mind expanding, many great works were produced under the influence, Www@QuestionHome@Com

Probably no!. Art is creation of ones own self!. Whether it be pain or joy!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

SHUT UP AND POOR IT THE GOODS!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Perhaps the question should be asked in a different way!. How great could some of those celebrated artists have been if they had NOT abused alcohol and drugs!? Not just in photography, but in other creative fields as well, the abuse of drugs and alcohol tend to go hand in hand with overdoses and shorter lifespans!. What kind of greatness could those artists achieve if they had the chance to mature with age and dedicate themselves to their art!?

As far as encouraging youth to explore drugs and alcohol, that's not only incredibly irresponsible, it's illegal!. As a parent, I would NEVER encourage my children to try something that has so many serious negative consequences, especially when the supposed positive effect is by no means substantiated!. Do I want my children to risk addiction and serious health consequences for the sake of art!? Not a chance!.

When my children are over 21, I don't imagine my feelings regarding their use of drugs or alcohol will have changed much!. Drinking responsibly is acceptable when it is legal!. Providing drugs to anyone is still illegal, regardless of their age!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
