Question: I'm preparing for my mock art GCSE on expressive faces, any suggestions for artists i could use as reference!?

This goes beyond GCSE, but at look at least at a couple of images on the internet about the work of Duchenne on facial expressions: (links below)!. He stimulated different muscles in the face electrically (in the 19th century) and the resulting photograhs are certainly strange and expressive!. In most photos the electrodes are retouched away!. It is the first time somebody investigated the muscles underlying facial expression in a systematic way!. also there is a book by Charles Darwin on the emotions in animals and man:

I think if you can crossreference art and science that's a plus and this kind of science is very close to art!.

As for some artists, I think Otto Dix painted surreal and very expressive faces, also Georg Grosz, Max Beckmann would work!. Of course you have to look at Picasso too!. And you obviously won't get by without Edward Munch!. And lets not forget Francis Bacon!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
