Usually they place a small plastic bag over the machine to prevent anything getting on the machine itself!. Or, if they don't use a bag they wipe it down with special anti viral/bacterial wipes that kill everything on contact!. I prefer the bag method, it's cheaper and more effective!. You don't want a tattoo, their messy, they hurt the body, they actually make a persons body ugly, specially with 100's of them plastered on the body!. You can get diseases from them, they are not natural because your filling your body up with ink!. As for cleaning them, it could be like a airbrush you have to soak it maybe in alcohol or some type of cleaning solution!. A tattoo gun would require to be disinfected from all germs and sterilized, they probably have to change the needles all the time!. Again the process of maintaining the tattoo equipment should deter anyone from getting one!.
