Question: How can I convince my friend that he has the wrong degree!?
I'm a Graphic Arts major nearing graduation!. I'm a few years behind, as I should have graduated in 2006 but didn't because I failed a number of classes!. I plan to become Adobe certified and one day make $100,000 to $150,000 per year!. I'm not sure exactly where I'll live or work, but I am certain of that income potential!.

My friend majored in business (eww)!. He works in a warehouse now but is trying to find something better!. He tells me that he works there because of the economy and because there aren't many choices where we live and because most jobs require 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, but I insist that it's because he majored in business!.

Is there something I'm missing here!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, there is a lot that you are missing!. And I'd love to see where you got that income figure - Adobe certified graphic artist making a hundred to a hundred fifty grand a year!. You believe in leprechauns too!? Because it seems you may be after a pot of gold that doesn't exist, my friend!. What you are missing is the basic fundamental of making money, and that is the understanding of business!. With a degree in business, your friend will make the six figure income as your boss, he'll pay you 25 grand a year because all you know is photoshop!. I hate how young people feel entitled to everything, yet are not willing to put in the work it takes to get it!. If you were smart, you'd get yourself a degree in business so that you'll be able to start your own graphic arts studio employing people with an adobe certification to do all the work for you while you make the big money!. Your friend is a victim of his own lack of motivation!. If you can't find work, move to where there is work - simple!. Maybe he likes working in a warehouse, or maybe it is because of the economy!. But either way, it's naive to think you'll do any better in such an economy!. I know plenty more people with degrees in graphic design working at TGIFriday's than I do working as graphic designers!. Don't believe your exempt!. I'll do you the favor someone should have done for me 8 years ago when I went to school for IT-network administration!. When I got finished, companies decided it was cheaper to sub out their IT jobs overseas!. And suddenly there were 15 million people out there with IT degrees that were worth NOTHING because of how easy it seemed to be an IT administrator!. I had ZERO experience and a big student loan to pay off with no job in IT!. The irony was those with business degrees took over where technology fell behind after 2000, and it turned out they made more money anyway because they knew how to run a business - which is where you end up interviewing for a job!. Business will never go anywhere, graphic designers are expendable!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm still an adolescent but things like these help me choose the career I will eventually pursue!. Obviously I'm still in high school and really all I'm trying to do right now is get goods grades!.

But the obvious things I can see from my perspective is that a degree in business seems to be a more permanent lifelong job whereas if you're a graphic arts major you may or may not succeed depending on your abilities!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well I rather major in Business then Graphic Arts!. You will get further with this economy with a Business degree then Graphic Arts degree!.

According to salary!.com US National Average for Graphic Designer is around 45kWww@QuestionHome@Com

I really do not know how much an Adobe Certified makes--but it rather surprised me that you said up to $150,000 annually!. If that is the case, well, congratulations are in order!.

I am wondering - what exactly is the purpose of what you are trying to do to your friend!. By reading your question, you think very little of a Business Degree, and it's obvious that things are not going well nowadays--so the only job he can get is in a warehouse--don't you think he is aware of that!?

If you're saying instead that your friend is working in a warehouse with a business degree and you want him to prosper--"how can I convince him to return to school and get an Adobe Certified degree like me!?", that would show that you, number one, care about him, and number two, are mature!.

Taunting someone who is already down isn't going to help!.
