Question: I have two days to put together a portfolio!!?
My photography teacher is taking me to Portfolio Day in California this weekend at the California Institute of the Arts!.

The thing is, that I don't have a portfolio! My strengths lie in graphic design and photography and I'd want to major in either one or the other, but how do I put together a portfolio in such a small amount of time!?

I'm good at what I do, but I need ideas! What kind of pieces are the representatives from art schools looking for!? What should I include in my portfolio!?

Basically where the heck do I start!!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wow, short notice sucks!. I applied for art school this year, but I'm in New Zealand and the expectations are probably completely different!. From what I've read, the people in art schools want to see:

-Work that shows planning and development of ideas!. Stuff that shows you're interested in trying new things and haven't pigeon-holed yourself as a particular type of artist before attending the art school!.

-That you have a unique style!. They want to know you're interesting, you have unique thoughts, interests and ideas!. They probably would like to be able to look at your work and be able to see what you could be working on in the future!.

-That you can do different things, in a variety of different media!. Design, photography, drawing, painting, etc!. They don't want to see stuff from just one subject- it'll make you seem limited, even if you're not!.

If you have a photography teacher I assume you have some finished work around!. Go through this (if there is time together with your teacher, after all it sounds like he sprung the short notice on you) and select pieces which are the best, but also show a variety of approaches and subject and techniques!.
