Question: 35mm film used with lomography!?
i just got a holga camera, and was sooooo excited to use it

but i put 35mm film in it, and took pictures, had them developed and you can barely see them on the negatives!.
i was really dissappointed with how they came out!.

i was just wandering if you had any tips or advice on how to get negatives that are so vivid and colorful like something like this one!.!.!.

It sounds like you used a low speed (low iso) film in your camera!. Holga likes film speeds with ISO 400 or better!.

also, Holga likes to shoot outdoors in fairly bright sunlight!.

When you unloaded the camera, did you make sure you were in a light tight room, or used a changing bag!? If you don't unload the camera in complete darkness, you might fog the film!.

Reload your camera, and try it again, keeping in mind the film speed and where you are shooting, and how you unload the film!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

were these negatives corss processed !? If so cross processing can change density of the negative as well as the colors The ones I have usually seen are E-6 films processed C41 So you would use a color slide film and then tell the lab to cross process it!. Its not just the film you shoot but also how you have it developed

If yours can barely be seen on the negatives I would guess they were underexposed for the way they were processed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ok!.!.!. I am going to assume you have the proper Holga for 35mm film!. The "normal" Holga uses 120 film!.

But we will say your camera is set up for 35mm film!. You do not state WHAT film you are using!? Just saying you put in 35mm film is meaningless!. What ISO is the film!? Color or black and white!? C41 process!? Negative or slide film!?

Some tips!. I use a Holga, though I use 120 film!. However the same will apply to you using 35mm film!.

Use film no slower than ISO 400!. The Holga has a fixed shutter speed of about 1/125 and an aperture of about f11!. Nothing is exact about the camera!.

Use negative film ONLY!. Do not use slide film!. You just do not have the ability to expose properly for slide film!. You need all the dynamic range you can get with a Holga, and that means negative film!.

Black and white film generally gives better results with the Holga!. Remember, the lens is crap and you have little to no exposure control!. Color is a waste of time!. The Holga can actually make some stunning shots when you shoot the right kind of subject matter with black and white film!.

My favorite film is Ilford XP2 ISO 400!. (All Ilford film is black and white)!.

So bottom line, try ISO 400 black and white C41 negative film!. also, if you are trying to take photos in dim conditions, you will likely get very poor results!. You can simply hold the shutter open if you have the 120 FN model that allows BULB shutter control!. But it will be a total guessing game as to how long to hold open the shutter, but that is part of the fun and skill of using the camera!.

Here are some of my Holga shots if you want to take a look:
