For Pencil Drawing, here are some handy stuff that I use almost all the time:

~HB, 2B, & 4B pencils!. These are easier to draw with, and vary the way you press on the paper!. (i!.e!., 4B=soft lead)
~A regular eraser (of course =D)
~Kneaded Eraser (optional) but it is very handy!. It can be kneaded into any shape, and its easy to pick up highlights in very small areas
~Blending Stumps: This helps your drawings have different textures, and more smooth and even shading
~Qtip/Tissues: For shading =D Diffrent types for different textures!.

OH!. and when ur drawing, DONT USE YOUR FINGER! you have oil on your skin, and then it will smudge it when coming in contact with the paper
(Just a note)

Go to Michale's, or JoAnn's!. Those are probably the BEST places to go for craft needs!. Walmart might have some standard supplies, but it wont have the best quailty!.

Oh, whoops!.!.!.!.i forgot to answer ur question!.!. hehe!.!.!.!.
Pastels are normally not so expensive, depending on the brand type, same with the art pencils!.
I suggest buying them in sets, and I dont think many places let you buy them individually!. If they do, normally, sets are slightly cheaper!.

Is there a hobby lobby near you!? If there is you will find what you need there at a decent price!. Just to let you know, that good quality art supplies are not cheap!. I have a set of colored pencils that cost me over a $100!.00 and charcoal pencils that ran me close to $75!.00!. I would suggest that you wait to get those until you are willing to put the time and effort into art!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Walmart craft section is great for these things!.!.!.!. go to walmart and ask the person working in the craft section to take you by the sketch books!.!.!.!.!.!.!. they have both where they are sold together and seperate!.!.!.!.!. and they aren't that expensive!.!.!.!.!.!.!. its alot cheaper there compared to a craft store!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. good luck and have loads of fun!.!.!.!.!.!.!. i love it too!.!.!.!.!.!. and as far as hobby lobby!.!.!. id put that off until you know you want to stick with it!.!.!.!.!. walmart stuff works just fine!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pencils are cheap I would go with some softer ones than a number 2 and also get some good gum erasers, you can buy sets or individual ones!.

Art supplies range in price anywhere from very cheap to very very expensive!. Since you are not a professional or a student, and are doing this for fun, you should concern yourself with the cheap to mid price range!.

You should check out that store that you notice has paint brushes, they probably have drawing supplies as well!. Try looking in your yellow pages under art supplies as well!. I know for a fact that walmart will not have any art supplies worth buying!.

Look in an art supply store!. Drawing pencil sets come in a range of softness and hardness, hard pencils are called "H", and will be categorized by number (for example, 4H), the higher the number, the harder the pencil!. Soft pencils are called "B" (for example, 7B)!. The higher the number, the softer the pencil!. Sets come with various ranges, some from 8H - 8B, some from B - 8B, 8H - H, etc!. It really depends on what and how you like to draw!. If you like to do highly realistic, detailed drawings, H is best!. For drawings with a lot of shading and tone, B is best!. I recommend a set that ranges from 8H - 8B because that will give you a little of both worlds to experiment with, and you can find your own personal niche!. Drawing pencils are fairly inexpensive, and you can expect a price range from 8 - 25 dollars for a quality set!.

Pastels - There are oil pastels and chalk (sometimes called soft) pastels!. There is also a new kind of pastel that is similar to something called conte, which is a hard waxy type of charcoal!. Pastels are a bit more expensive than pencils, and you can expect to pay between 15 and 70 dollars for a good set!. Oil pastels are slightly less expensive, I think you can find a set for around 15 dollars that is still good quality!. Oil pastels are a common first step into the world of pastels for many students, as they are fairly easy to blend, and difficult to smudge accidentally!. They are also much less messy than chalk (soft) pastels!. Chalk (soft) pastels are by far the most difficult to work with, and you can expect to pay between 35 and 70 dollars for a quality set!. You can get very cheap chalk pastels, but going cheap with chalk pastels is not an option - if you buy cheap ones, they will be extremely low on pigment, high on filler, and will be even harder of a medium to work with!. Conte-style pastels may be difficult to find, and are between 30 and 70 dollars, I believe!. There is only one company that makes them, as far as a know!. So my suggestion is to buy some oil pastels, as you can get good quality ones for cheap!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, if you don't already know there are pencils that are made for drawing, in that one may make soft lines and another may make very very dark lines!. I've never bought them, but they're probably more expensive than the average #2 pack pencils!.

My suggestion is not to buy them!. Since you probably don't have that much experience with drawing, you probably don't know very well how to use pressure when drawing to create different kinds of strokes!. To help practice with using pressure, I suggest you just buy regular pencils, the ones with the same grade lead!. I like Ticonderoga #2 pencils, they have good lead, good erasers, and I have the ones that are painted black, so they look cool and professional!.!.!. my sister bought them for me at Walmart for my birthday!. ^^ Ah ha ha!. also they're called the Best Pencils in the World!. : ) I don't know how much of that is true!.

Besides, getting those art pencils that I related, won't tell you how to do good shading!. You need to know where and how to apply shade, and those art pencils just make it more complicated and create the illusion that just with light and dark shades you have good shading!. NO!

So, although those art pencils can be fun to use, they're only really fun when you understand what you have, and know the fundamentals of good shading and lighting!.

I think you should explore art more before you jump in to get "high-quality" supplies!.!.!. because you can make good art with anything you have!. It's not the medium, it's what you put into it that makes it art!.

However, I would really envy good art supplies!. So if your inclination is strong, it is your right to pursue what you want!. I just want you to understand that better art supplies won't make you a better artist!.

I don't mean to be harsh!. : D Www@QuestionHome@Com
