Question: Is there any way to dye mineral oil!?
I'm doing a project where i need to dye mineral oil black ( or even better, very dark brown so that you can only tell that it is brown in small quantities; almost like Coca-Cola!.) Anyway, if there is a way it needs to not be flammable, and needs to be able to insulate electricity!. After one person replies "no" please don't post the same reply over and over again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can maybe add bits of the liquorice plant, which is used to make Licorice (the candy we eat) and its also used to make Root Beer; its basically the root of a flower which you can buy in syrup form!.!.!.!.drop a few drops (as needed) into your oil and let it dissolve gradually!.!.!.you'll notice that it gets darker and darker!.!.!.

But beware!! Excessive consumption of liquorice or liquorice candy is known to be toxic to the liver and cardiovascular system, and may produce hypertension and oedema!.!.!.!.

Meantime, phosphorus(V) or magnesium chloride (liquid form) do not conduct electricity!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you just need to use dyes which are not polar!. But I wouldn't really bother!. Just go to a garage where they do oil changes, the oil which comes out of the car will be nicely black!. If you want something else, check out the candle making section in a hobby store near you!. Dyes which are good for candle wax should work with oils too!.
All oil is flammable!.

You also could google "oil soluble dyes" for more ideas and info!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
