How should i know if im ready to buy a lens for my gear!?

Whenever you think you simply cannot do what you want to do with the lens you have!.

In 37 years I've amassed 17 lenses!. Do I use them all every day!? Of course not!. Some may not be used for weeks or even months!. But its sure nice to know that when I need a lens for a particular application I have it!. After all, "One can have too many lenses but one can never have enough!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Two reasons:
(1) You find that your skills have improved to the point where your lenses do not fulfill your expectations for quality!. Time to upgrade to professional grade!.
(2) You're missing shots!. For example: can't get everything in (need a wide angle), can't fill the frame with your subject (telephoto or macro), images in low light settings are blurry (bigger aperture or a lens with image stabilization or off-camera flash)!.

If you buy a new lens for any other reason, then you're just a gear head!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

You're ready when you have enough money and you know what kind of lens you want or need!. It isn't exactly a ceremonial rite, buying a lens!. Just be sure it's a good one and it does what you want it to!. You don't have to be a great photographer before you buy another lens; you get good using equipment!. Me!? I need an 80mm or even a 300mm, and I know because I can't get some shots with my 28mm that I know I'm going to want to get!. I also know that I don't want a zoom lens due to their decreased sharpness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When you graduate to a new kind of shooting that requires a new lens, i!.e!. shooting sports after shooting, say, landscapes!. Or, if you suddenly decide to do whatever you're doing more, and want a better lens to do it with!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When you simply can't do without it!. You can stock yourself up with superfluous lenses very quickly - lenses you will seldom need!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
