Question: Which art medium is best!?
I love to draw and paint!. I have been working on a few projects and have the base lines down, its time to put some color into the little devils!. I really love working with colored pencils, but they never look very smooth!. What brands, or even other medium, are similar to colored pencils!? What can i use to make my drawings look softer!? In Jr college are professor had us use waxed paper to smooth out our pencil work!. Are there any other tricks i can use to make my art look better, colorwise!? I'm ok with shading and such, but i have a hard time making my colors look good, and half the time i end up just shading in grey, or doing black and whites!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I also agree that Prismacolor color pencils (Not Prismacolor Verithin or ColErase) is probably most preferable to color pencil artists!. Soft Pastels can also receive a similar effect as a color pencil, although it can get very messy and if you are not careful, it can turn the drawing into mud!. I would say, just stick with color pencil!.

Now for the color pencil!. Starting with a light wash (light color) and then applying it softly to the drawing!. Then after that, start moving from light to dark by adding layers and layers of colors!. Always keep a light pressure to achieve a soft blend and to keep the surface workable!. If you add too much pressure, you won't be able to add any more layers to that part of the drawing!.

While doing this, my teacher taught me a technique where you can achieve an soft blend!. Color it with a clock wise or counter clock wise motion!. It may look like a bunch of circles in the beginning, but keep doing it until it looks like one flat color!. Remember to keep a soft touch!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really like using Prismacolor brand colored pencils!. They're a little expensive, but are amazing!. When you use thing draw using tiny soft circles!. To darken the color, go over the area again!. When shading, don't use regular graphite pencils!. Blues and purples are usually your best bet!. When drawing people do not include any purple on their skin because it makes them look dead!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I liked Prismacolor colored pencils!. They're rich in color, and from my time with them I thought, very smooth!.

And there's a kind of crayon, from the brand Sakura, that I thought very nice and smooth!. They're long and thin with pointed tips!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
